3 – Day Tour to Tortuguero

3 Days

Tortuguero: often referred to as the “Amazonas of Costa Rica,” is an exuberant and vibrant destination where you can immerse yourself in the country’s stunning natural beauty and diverse wildlife. As you journey through the intricate network of river canals, you’ll witness how the lush rainforest creates a thriving habitat for countless animals, offering visitors the unique opportunity to observe them in their natural environment. A three-day expedition in Tortuguero provides ample time to explore the various canals and trails of the National Park. During the turtle nesting season, you’ll also have the chance to witness the incredible spectacle of Green Turtles coming ashore to nest along the Caribbean coast.
Day 1: Your adventure begins with a trip from your hotel to Cariari de Guápiles, continuing on to La Pavona. There, a boat will be waiting to take you on a scenic journey along the La Suerte River, an hour and a half ride that offers breathtaking views of the landscapes and abundant wildlife, until you arrive at Tortuguero village.
Nesting Season Experience (from July to September): During nesting season, you’ll have the unique opportunity to join a guided night tour and witness the incredible miracle of life as Green Turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. This unforgettable event takes place at night under strict safety guidelines set by the National Park, allowing you to respectfully observe one of nature’s most extraordinary spectacles.

Day 2: A Day Full of Adventure. Begin your day with an early morning boat tour through the winding river canals, where you’ll search for wildlife as they start their day in the rainforest. With the help of your knowledgeable tour guide, you’ll learn about the fascinating habits, survival strategies, and interrelationships of the diverse species that call Tortuguero home. On this day, you’ll have the chance to explore two different canals: Caño Harold and Caño Palma, increasing your chances of spotting a variety of wildlife. After lunch, you’ll head to Cerro Tortuguero, a perfect spot to discover even more wildlife and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Tortuguero Village, the surrounding canals, and the lush landscape from above.

Day 3: Farewell to Tortuguero: On your final day, it’s time to say goodbye to Tortuguero and continue your Costa Rican adventure. A scenic hour-and-a-half boat ride will take you back to La Pavona, where your transportation to your next destination will be waiting.

Overview

Travel is more than just moving from one place to another — it’s about exploring new destinations, discovering cultures, and creating unforgettable memories. Whether it’s walking through tropical rainforests, biking along scenic coastlines, cruising on a boat, or flying across breathtaking landscapes, every journey in Costa Rica is filled with adventure.

The word “travel” has deep roots in history, originally connected to the Old French word travail, meaning “work.” But today, travel has transformed into something far more rewarding — a way to relax, recharge, and connect with nature and people around the world.

At Discovery Costa Ricas, we believe travel isn’t just about reaching a destination — it’s about the experiences you collect along the way.
